lilly, guenther and a cameo by norton

When I knocked on the door for our session, I was greeted by a herd of boxers in a variety of sizes… small, medium and large. No joke – Lilly’s a wee little girl at about 40 pounds; Guenther is a more traditionally-sized boxer at 60 pounds, and Norton, a foster (now settled in his forever home) is a big boy at 80 pounds.

Their mom and dad are active volunteers wtih Legacy Boxer Rescue, the excellent organization that helped me get Cash healthy and into his new home.  In fact, they’ve been there basically since the beginning… they met Sharon Sleighter, who went on to start LBR, when they were adopting their first dog, Lilly.  Sweet little Lilly’s eight now and is a super patient big sister to her brother, Guenther, and to the many fosters that have come through the house.

I’d heard the term “pocket boxer” before but I don’t think I’d ever seen one quite so… pocket.  Seriously, I wanted to scoop her up and put her in my pocket.

She may be eight now, but the girl’s still full of boxer energy.  Soon after I arrived, she took off (in the gorgeous new backyard), showing off her boxer burns.

About a year after adopting Lilly, her parents decided they were so happy with their new family member that they wanted to become involved in boxer rescue so they joined the newly formed Legacy Boxer Rescue.  Not too long after, they fostered a pregnant mom.  When the puppies came, there was one sweet boy that they couldn’t resist.  And so Guenther, now 6 years old, was added to the family.

It’s been said that boxers are puppies for life.  Guenther certainly lives up to that!  He also is very possibly the most expressive pup I’ve photographed.  I giggled out loud more than once while editing his shots.

See?

And a quick cameo by the big guy.  Norton had been living with his foster family for several month, but, by the time of our session, his new forever home was lined up.  He’s since settled in to his new home and is doing well.  Norton’s a sweet, super mellow senior boy, happy to get a few treats and his ears rubbed.

Leanne - What a stunning set! Just lovely! Oh how I love Boxers

Sharon Sleighter - These are simply awesome. I wonder if Amy and Jay will let me borrow their home for a photo shoot with my pack. LOL!

Ruth - Just gorgeous, as always!

dallas voice

A couple weeks ago, I was approached by Steven Lindsey, a local writer, about having an article written about me and thank Dog. for the Dallas Voice.  Umm…. yes, please!  The article came out today….

Pick up a copy – or check out the online version here.

And a little behind the scenes — actually, it was just a typical shoot!  I went over and met Steven, his partner, and their crew of four girls.  Yep, four.  A sweet older chow mix, two terrier mixes, and a young rat terrier.  Prepare yourself for a loooong post!

First – Peyton.  She’s getting up there (she’s almost 12), but you’d never know.  The oldest and the biggest, Peyton’s the boss, but she’s more of a benevolent leader. Her gorgeous coat comes from hours of sunbathing on the deck.

Next up are the middle kids, Cleo and Cordy, both terrier mixes.  They are 9 and 8 respectively, and, believe it or not, Cleo is Cordy’s mom.  (Cleo’s the adorable little fuzzy brown, black and white girl; Cordy’s the elegant black girl with the Hepburn neck.)

And lastly, little Kendall, the 3 year old rat terrier.  While Cleo and Cordy are thought to be part terrier, there is absolutely no doubt that Kendall is all terrier.  She’s the little stinker of the family, with a personality about 1,000,000 times her size.

Thanks to Steven, his family and the Dallas Voice!!

Also – thank Dog. will be at a bunch of upcoming events — Walk Wag & Run this Saturday, the Barking Hound Village Howl-O-Ween parties in both Dallas and Austin next week, and the West Village Dog Trot & Treat next weekend (check the Events tab for more information).  Come by and visit!

garbo, the really great dane

I was so excited when Garbo’s mom emailed me about setting up a session.  I’m a big fan of the giant breeds (see Belle) – and we had two Danes when I was growing up so they have a special place in my heart.  Garbo did not disappoint.  I was advised before the shoot that Garbo can be a little “guardy” and standoffish at first, but I didn’t see that at all.  Rather, within minutes, I was getting the full Dane lean.

And I was extra happy when we decided to do the shoot in downtown.  We started at the park (Main Street Gardens).

Garbo’s a pretty mantle girl — and she’s enormous.  Seriously, she’s BIG (like 65 pounds bigger than Belle).  While at the park, a little boy asked if he could “pet the reindeer.”

She’s a big girl, but she’s still playful.  And I come equipped with cuz balls for all sizes!

After the park, we decided to do a little window shopping.  Miss Garbo has good (and expensive) taste.  I thought Belle attracted a lot of  attention, but it’s nothing compared to walking around downtown with Garbo.

A little something different – but for some reason, I really like it.

I’m a bit bummed by this last shot.  We wanted to get a shot of Garbo walking among the cattle sculpture, but unfortunately, Garbo was not too excited about the idea (the ginormous ones are always the biggest scaredy cats!).  We managed to get her to walk along the path next to them once, but I didn’t have time to get a particularly good angle.  Next time.

Stephanie - What an AWESOME session!!! I really love the first, second and last shot. Beautiful images

Briana - The Neiman’s shot could not be more fabulous. 🙂

black dog + white dog + stick + water = FUN

The weather has finally turned, and the pups and I couldn’t be happier.  Every summer, when it’s 100+ degrees for weeks on end, I ask myself why I live in Texas, and then October to March comes around and I remember.

It’s been gorgeous this week so I decided to pack the dork and the doofus up and head to the creek in Garland where I shot Deigo.  They both LOVED it.  I took my camera and took a few shots — the photos are Belle-heavy but this is really her element (and she’s a natural-born model, easily manipulated by a stick).

Despite appearances, she’s not so crazy.  Just gets the crazy eyes.

I never get tired of watching them together.  Maybe it’s because Belle’s a turd with most other dogs, but their relationship makes smile.  They’re so different, but they L.O.V.E. each other.

Plenty of water spraying everywhere.

And one last parting, shot in black and white.

thank Dog. is going to be at several upcoming events — check the “events” tab on the left for details!

Debbie - I’ll definitely go back in a few weeks when the leaves start to change – thanks for the tip. And thanks for introducing me to the spot!

Marcelo and Deigo - Wow,beautiful Dogs you have, and what a wonderful place to take photos, you should wait a few more weeks when the leaves turn colors then this place really is so colorful and you should see it durning a snowfall in winter. We will be ordering some cards from you this weekend sometime, love your work.

Becky - Love these photos Deb! The tail flip photo of Belle is amazing, and judging by the second photo she definitely has an edge on Phaneuf in the energy department! P is attracted to water like a moth to a flame, but she’s a lazy lounger once she’s in it. 🙂

Dave - where is this creek? my pup would love that place

2010 Holiday Cards

Somehow it’s already fall – football’s in full swing, the weather is so much more tolerable, and it’s time to start thinking about holiday cards!

thank Dog. offers fantastic, professionally-printed 5×7 holiday cards — they look and feel like the cards you find in gift shops, only better because they have your favorite photos on them!  A bunch of different designs are available — all of last year’s designs are still available (check them out here) — and some super cute new ones have been added for 2010, including a new, flat option (the Deck the Halls and Headlines styles below).  Cards can be customized – mix and matching fronts, insides, backs; changing colors; personalizing text.  If you see one below (or from last year’s options) that you like, but not exactly as it is, let me know and odds are, it can be tweaked to fit.  (One of my favorite cards from last year turned a portrait style into a landscape to fit an adorable photo.)

Set of 25 cards (with envelopes) are $75*

If you are an existing or past client interested in ordering some cards with your favorite photos from your session, send me an email to debbie(at)thankdogphotography.com.  But for those that haven’t had your session yet?  Don’t wait… book your appointment now!  Sessions must take place before November 30 to ensure time to have the cards ready, and the schedule’s starting to fill up!

As an extra incentive, I’m offering a Holiday Special — for $675, you receive a session for 1-2 dogs, a 16×24 canvas, 4 gift prints (8×12 or smaller), and 50 holiday cards.  Bargain!

* Price does not include tax or shipping.
