pete the boxer

I’ve always liked boxers – they’re such clowns – but since my time fostering Cash, they’ve held a special place in my heart.  So I was thrilled when Pete’s mom contacted me about a session – and doubly so when I found out Pete had been adopted from the same rescue organization that helped me with Cash.

Pete’s a stereotypical boxer – all tongue and goofiness.  Our session was so much fun — both watching Pete do his thing and gossiping with his mom.  I feel like we must have met before – she was elementary school friends with my best friend from junior high, and she went to college and briefly lived with one of my high school best friends (thanks to Heather for the referral!).

Pete’s mom (and grandma) run an adorable business, Two Funny Girls — you may see Pete modeling one of their products in the slideshow. (I *suggested* to Kristy that they add a line of pet products!)

I know it’s 100+ degrees out (again!), but it’s already time to start thinking about holiday cards!  New designs will be coming soon — but last year’s will also be available again (remember, colors, text, and, of course, photos can be customized!).  Current card prices are $75 per set of 25 folded 5×7 cards.

paws in the city

If you follow this blog, you’ve probably seen the posts with dogs or cats up for adoption through Paws in the City, a rescue organization working in the Dallas-Fort Worth area. If you have a few minutes, please watch this video that Paws recently put together describing what they do and what you can do to help. You might recognize a few faces (and photos)!

[If you are having problems and/or the video doesn’t appear, try refreshing your browser window — I don’t know why, but it works for me!]

zeus | gentle giant

Zeus is a big, big mastiff boy and the brother to Miss Lily.  While Lily had lots of energy and an activity-filled day, this was just about the extent of Zeus’s activity….

My kind of pup.

He did do a little posing for treats, though mostly from his reclining position.

Zeus has a Very. Important. Job.  He checks the mail everyday – consider him quality assurance for the US postal service.  We tricked him into thinking it had come so he came trotting out to check.  (It didn’t fool him long, he circled the mailbox once and went right back up to the front porch for another nap.)

He does the same excellent three-legged dog impersonation that my Bear does.  It seems like it would be uncomfortable to have a leg wedged up under you, but I guess not.  Oh, and yes, Zeus creates his own sidewalk art in the summer.

I love the giant working breeds and was thrilled to meet Zeus.  How can you not love the big gentle giants?!?!

Becky - I’m sure you’re not surprised, but I love the drool shot. Big dogs rule! 🙂

jenn - Great images… love the check the mail story. He is quite magestic in stature and movement.

I don’t want to leave the kitties out!

I stopped by a recent kitty adoption event at Petsmart to take photos of some of the many, many kittens and cats that are up for adoption.  Several of these guys have probably already been adopted (and sadly, the grey tabby didn’t make it through her spay surgery), but there are lots more that are every bit as cute and just as sweet as these guys.

We tossed a blanket over a display shelf, threw a bed down and voila! (very pink) instant studio!

If you are interested in adopting or fostering a kitty, please check out Paws in the City.

Lily - OMG – the closeup seventh from the end is precious! (as they all are.) wonder what Hannah and Edie would think…
