a little dude

I love this kid.  He cracks me up.

Liam (and his parents) used to live in Dallas, but they moved to Pittsburgh a few years ago.  They came back in town this past weekend for a friend’s wedding (congratulations, Amy & Greg!) so we got to play.  I only get to see Liam about once a year now that they’ve moved, but he remembers me.  Or, more accurately, he remembers my dogs.  After they landed in Dallas on Friday, they saw a woman walking a Great Dane and another big dog – Liam’s response was “I can’t wait to see Debbie!”  (So, yes, my status as the crazy (big) dog lady is official.)  It’s amazing how fast they grow up — Liam was just a toddler when they left Dallas, barely talking.  Now he’s a real boy.  Who was a big fan of the “toot balloon” (a.k.a. whoopee cushion) that I just *happened* to have with me…  (You’re welcome, Kelly!)

I met up with Liam and his mom at a local park for a little play time.  I had my camera with me and took a few snapshots of the little dude.  I also brought Bear — I usually bring Belle because she’s so good in crowds and with strangers, but decided I’d give Bear a chance.   After he settled down a bit, he was fine – but, admittedly, not particularly outgoing.  He’s not quite sure what to make of little kids.  Though after a little while, he did decide Liam was okay and let Liam walk him around and hug on him.

Aww…. I was just about to post this when I got an email from Kelly (Liam’s mom).  Liam wrote me a love note on the plane home yesterday.  And back at home asked, “Can we see Belle next time?”

Dad - I still don’t understand why you don’t include children to your photography passion. These as great, and follow the same “natural” look you capture in dogs.

Amy - Fabulous pics, Debbie!!!

Shawn - Great pictures Debbie! Can’t believe how big Liam has gotten! He is a little boy now. What a cutie!

edie | dallas pet photography

You may notice something unusual about Edie.  Well, I suppose it’s nothing about her that’s unusual, but her presence here might be.

I do photograph cats occasionally — they can actually be a lot of fun to shoot.  They aren’t easily bribed like most dogs, and don’t really take direction well (I suspect they are looking at me and making condescending remarks in French instead).  You know your cat, and you know whether or not it’s realistic to think that I can get any decent shots.  For example, if someone were to come over to shoot my cat, Harley, they might get a few hissing shots and then darkness under the bed (not a lot of natural light there…).  I worried that the same was going to happen with Edie — she did dive under the bed soon after I arrived, but she quickly reappeared, game for a modeling session.

Edie’s a gorgeous cat – so gorgeous, in fact, that I’m pretty sure Lily did all of her interior decorating to match Edie’s pretty coat.  But lest you think she’s just another pretty face — she’s also quite the huntress of all things catnip.

Anita - She’s stunning! I love diluted torties:)

hannah | dallas dog photography

I first met Hannah back in July when she was a Paws in the City dog looking for a home.  She found one.  A super good one.  I wish I could say I was instrumental, but Lily fell in love with Hannah all on her own.

Lily had mentioned that some of my shots of my Bear reminded her of Hannah — and I totally see it.  Hannah is like a cross between Bear, a miniature kangaroo (miniature because Hannah’s a little more than half Bear’s size), with a touch of my sister’s dog, Bowie, tossed in.  That’s a good mix, trust me!

This past weekend we headed to Lee Park for our session.  Hannah was in heaven – there were so many SQUIRRELS! to chase.  And to tree.  She even made a few friends (one bulldog was especially taken with her – and who could blame him?).  By the time we were finished, she was tuckered out – she fought to keep her eyes open after we got back to Lily’s apartment, but it was a losing battle.  It’s clear that Lily adores Hannah – and Hannah returns the love in spades (and, like my Bear, she’s not afraid to cover your face with kisses).

Steve - GORGEOUS puppy — must be her babysitter when Lily is out of town.

Seriously … absolutely gorgeous photos of my favorite puppy in the world.

Shauna (Fido & Wino blog) - I love these photos! Hannah reminds me of my dog Kayloo!

Amy - Very very nice!

cheese!!

It occurred to me as I was posting this that it might look like Cagney is snarling at me — she’s not at all, I promise!  I prefer to think of this as that smile you get when you ask an elementary school kid to smile.  Something they do naturally all the time — until you ask.  Then they contort their cute faces into some weird grimace that shows all their teeth.

I posted about Cagney & Lacey not too long ago — they are a pair of GSD sisters who have gone through some pretty serious health issues.  Well, I saw them yesterday and I’m happy to report they are both doing really well.  And – best of all – both are being adopted… together!   A man lost one of his GSDs not too long ago saw the girls — and it was love at first sight.  Both girls apparently have some dog aggression issues (hard to believe as they most certainly do not have any people aggression!) so they are being trained and worked with before he takes both of them home.  They’re young and smart so I have no doubt those issues will be resolved, and they’ll all be one big happy family very soon.

They’re gorgeous dogs – and very close.  I’ve been told that when they go on walks, they are reminiscent of pairs ice skating – in sync right down to how they sit back to back to take care of their business.  There are difference though – Lacey was all about the cuz ball I brought; Cagney was way more interested in the treats in my pocket.

Shauna (Fido & Wino blog) - When I was a kid my family had a dog, Tobi, who would “smile” at us when we came home from school. He would be wagging all over, could hardly contain himself. That smile looked so ridiculous… & was so endearing 🙂

Great news that they have been adopted out!

young’uns | paws in the city

A few of the younger dogs up for adoption through Paws in the City.…  I think Roxie is the senior of this group – I’m not sure how old she was, but judging by her enthusiasm for the cuz ball, I’d say she’s still pretty young.  Otto’s the only other full-grown dog of the group – and he’s only about a year old and still full of puppy vigor (he was Tank’s best buddy at a recent adoption event).  The remaining three – Willow, Sammie and Millie – are all babies, probably under six months.  All of these guys play very well with others — two- and four-legged.

Ruth - Great photos Debbie! How awesome is Otto, love that smile and those ears!!!
