Another sneak peek…. I’m slowly but surely working through my backlog.
Atticus and Abby had so much fun at our session. They didn’t seem to mind the grey, seriously-overcast sky at all.
I love greyhounds. They’re something so unique about them – they’re elegant, gentle, sweet… and typically so laid back it’s hard to imagine a lot of them have racing backgrounds.
Both Shane and J.J. are rescued racers (you may be able to just see the tattoos in their ears in a few shots). Shane fits the stereotypical greyhound to a T – he’s like an old soul, unassuming, docile, daddy’s little boy, and the perfect therapy dog. His new baby brother, J.J.? Not so much. J.J. played fetch, removed every single toy from my bag, one by one, and even was game for a little tug-of-war (though he is still a bit of a baby, at only 18 months old).
Greyhounds’ builds are fascinating to me – those huge, powerful hind legs, the long skinny toes, the nose stuck onto the end of the snout, the long neck leading into the small head… And, of course, the fully-retractable ears.
You probably notice the leashes in some of these shots… I can remove them (and will), but didn’t for blogging purposes. I frequently am asked about leashes – a lot of the dogs you see on here were leashed. Not all – some have solid command and we were in a safe environment – but quite a few. For example – Bear is rarely leashed, but Belle almost always is (she’s my stubborn little troublemaker). I have some really long leads that I bring with me so if you’re interested in the action shots or the like, it’s still possible with a dog that needs to be leashed.
I absolutely LOVE the smiling dog picture with the squint eyes!!
Darling shot with Dad and Shane! These are terrific, Debbie.
Thanks so much to everybody for their patience – I know I’m a bit behind (on everything)! My computer has been in the hospital (aka the Genius Bar at the Apple Store), but unfortunately, that didn’t seem to remedy what ails her. I’m trying something else that’ll hopefully get her up and running smoothly again soon!
Beautiful shot of a gorgeous dog!
I’m going to have a booth at the Easter in the Park (at Lee Park in Turtle Creek). It’s such a fun event — one of my favorites of the year. Weather permitting (please!!), the Dallas Symphony will play, and the dogs will be out in full force and in some amazing costumes. Fingers crossed the storms are gone and stay away! If you get a chance, stop by the booth and say “hi!”
I’ve just learned that my favorite reindeer, Garbo, is gone. Her mom emailed me last night, explaining that Garbo started having some issues on Saturday, and by Sunday, she couldn’t walk and was in a great deal of pain. Thinking (hoping) it was her legs, Garbo was taken to her vet — who immediately referred her to a canine neurologist. I heard today from Garbo’s extended family at Barking Hound Village, her home away from home, that the big beautiful girl had developed a bacterial infection in her spine, and, unfortunately, she would never be able to walk again. The heartwrenching decision was made, and today Garbo was set free.
I find it difficult to describe our relationships with our dogs. I’m not a clever wordsmith or poet, and at times like this, words escape me.
All I know is that Garbo was completely and deeply loved.
My heart’s breaking for you, Becky.
While we are always sad to see posts about passing, Great Danes are especially close to our hearts (We’ve had 3 over the years). Garbo looks so like our current Dane, Cajun, that my heart did a little jump. Hugs and a prayer sent to his humans, Liz
An unbelievable loss so quickly. We only have our friends for such a short time. It’s definitley not long enough to enjoy all the wonderful things that they bring to a relationship and the life of their owner/best friend. Garbo had a wonderful family and life, we are all so lucky to have had the chance to meet him and see his wonderful personality through your photographs. {{{GARBO}}}
Just this side of heaven is a place called Rainbow Bridge.
When an animal dies that has been especially close to someone here, that pet goes to Rainbow Bridge.
There are meadows and hills for all of our special friends so they can run and play together.
There is plenty of food, water and sunshine, and our friends are warm and comfortable.
All the animals who had been ill and old are restored to health and vigor; those who were hurt or maimed are made whole and strong again, just as we remember them in our dreams of days and times gone by.
The animals are happy and content, except for one small thing; they each miss someone very special to them, who had to be left behind.
They all run and play together, but the day comes when one suddenly stops and looks into the distance. His bright eyes are intent; His eager body quivers. Suddenly he begins to run from the group, flying over the green grass, his legs carrying him faster and faster.
You have been spotted, and when you and your special friend finally meet, you cling together in joyous reunion, never to be parted again. The happy kisses rain upon your face; your hands again caress the beloved head, and you look once more into the trusting eyes of your pet, so long gone from your life but never absent from your heart.
Then you cross Rainbow Bridge together….
