I’m spoiled

Belle pretty much has her commands down pat — sit, down, over (onto her side), up, high five, shake (both paws), leave it, wait, kiss, hug, and stay.  But this time I just told her to look cute.  This is what she gave me.

I’m starting to think that she understands way more than I give her credit for…  Which also means she completely ignores me more often than I realize.

nick - Haha she’s like “What? Not again.. i want to nap…”

Jennie - I can not get enough of Belle. She hit “cute” right on the head!

amanda - she looks like a giant, cuddly stuffed animal. i agree, a newfie would look absurd with a shave. 🙂

california vacation

After my mom died in 2002, my dad, my sister and I decided that we’d take a trip together – just the three of us – every year.   This year, my dad and I flew out to meet my sister in San Diego.  From there we drove up the coast, ending up in Cambria.  It was a lot of fun — and the weather was great if a little foggy  (I had to get a fleece!  In late July! Do you know happy that makes a Texan?!?).  After a couple days, we drove back down and spent the night in Santa Barbara before heading back to San Diego and on home.

I took a ton of photos — here are just a small selection (sadly, this truly is just a small selection!) in slideshow form.

Bowie belongs to my sister and her husband.  She’s a super sweet girl, though she still has a few relatively minor “issues” from her previous life.  One of which being that she HATES the camera.  Seriously – I’ve been around some dogs that don’t particularly like it, but Bowie’s by far the least comfortable.  Nevertheless, my sister wanted me to try to grab a few shots of her in the brief time I was in San Diego.  We had a few spare minutes in the evening after the drive down from Santa Barbara but before we had to turn in the rental car, so I grabbed my longer lens and we went on a short walk around the block and then to the tennis court for a little fetching (only a few times – the surface is like sandpaper on her poor little paws).

Though Bowie can sound (and look) pretty tough, there is no doubt she is NOT the ruler of the household.  No, that title unquestioningly belongs to Estelle, the Assassin Cat.

Daniel - Wow! Great job. I love, love, love the three shots of her running. And the shake, too. Super cool. Thanks so much.

gina anson - WOW, you are a very GOOD photographer! Man, for a dog that didn’t like the camera, you would never know!

Can you come to my house and capture my 4-legged kids? 😉

Becky (rksquared) - Great pics Debbie. Bowie is a cutie for sure! On a (hopefully-not-too-weird) sidenote, I had a really strange dream the other night that involved two dogs…one named Belle and the other named Bear. 🙂

leesia - love these spreads! the one running across a tennis court (?) is totally trippy! bowie is a cutie.

california vacation | sneak peek

I just got back from California, where I took a couple (thousand) dozen shots.  I haven’t begun going through them all, but here’s one from just across the street from our hotel in Cambria….

jaden and slade | paws in the city

I love watching some good dog play.jaden-slade-plaly

The dogs above (Jaden and Slade) had been saved from a city shelter that morning and taken to the fantastic Barking Hound Village to wait for a foster and/or forever home.  Sweet, gorgeous babies who seemed happy to be getting used to a new kind of life…
