montana

I went by one of the Paws in the City adoption events this past weekend to photograph some kitties up for adoption (hopefully I’ll get some of their photos posted up here soon!).  This particular event was held inside Petsmart — which means only a few dogs (most were over at Pet Supplies Plus) but a lot of cats.  But it was one of the dogs that broke my heart a little.

Montana is a gorgeous yellow lab.  She’s an older lady, 10-12 years old, who was surrendered after her previous owners learned she has diabetes and needs twice-daily shots (just a simple injection in the morning and again at night).  The diabetes is under control with the injections, and she’s otherwise healthy.   She’s obedience trained and was obviously well-cared for (though I can’t even fathom giving one of my pups up just because s/he required a little more TLC).  She’s very sweet and gentle and friendly, but — and I may be anthropomorphizing — I think she’s a little depressed and bewildered, not understanding what’s going on.  I really hope she finds a wonderful home to live out her remaining years.  A really really really good one where she will be spoiled rotten.

If you’re interested or know someone who might be, please contact Paws in the City.

Shauna (Fido & Wino) - She’s gorgeous- pardon my ignorance, but what city & state is she in?

Debbie - Shauna – Dallas, Texas.

Charlie James - Where can we pick her up today and take her home. http://www.araratacres.com

Debbie - Charlie/Liz – if y’all are serious, contact Paws in the City (though I just checked the website and she may have already been adopted…).

Charlie James - We checked with Michael and he said she’s found a home. yea for her! We are all about helping big dogs in need at Ararat Acres :).

Christopher - This set is gorgeous!

lila, louie and beaumont

Or “LiLouBo” as I’ve been calling them in my head.

Monica won a session for her two monsters, Lila and Louie, at a Legacy Boxer Rescue silent auction (LBR is the organization that helped me get Cash healthy and find him a new home).  Both were described as pit bulls or pit mixes, but I think Louie might be more American Bulldog.  I met them at their absolutely adorable home and was immediately greeted very enthusiastically – like my house, it’s better if visitors are dog lovers so they can really appreciate all the love being showered on them!   She’s also the foster mom  to Beau, but I’d be surprised if he doesn’t end up a permanent addition to the pack (he already fits in seamlessly).

Ms. Lila is a relatively petite girl – but with an impressive set of ears.  She’s the oldest of the pack at 6, but you’d think she was still a puppy.  She very much wants to be the center of attention and wants to “help” at all times.  And she’s got a big, giant, happy smile.

Louie’s only two, but he’s assumed the “man of the house” position.  Very sweet and friendly, just less enthusiastically so as compared to Lila.  His mom described him as a bit more of a loner, and it’s true — when he has had his fill of attention, he’ll wander off for a little Louie time.  Though he may actually just be reassuming his sentry position.  From the table out on the back porch (standing on top of the table), he can not only see his own yard, but he can also survey the neighbors as well.  And don’t think he doesn’t monitor that chihuahua’s comings and goings.

Since Monica’s fallen in love with Beau, we couldn’t leave him out!  He’s a goofy, extremely lovable, polka-dotted white boxer with the softest fur ever.  Seriously, he gives Cash a run for his money for cutest boxer ever.  He and Lila are big buddies – and I think Louie’s grateful to have Beau to entertain Lila so he can take care of business.

sarah - these are so great! her ears! his face! the spots! LOVE.

Carly - Love these images!
What is it about the face of a Pitty…. they ALWAYS make me smile!!
All 3 dogs are adorable!

Shauna (Fido & Wino) - What a beautiful pack!

Briana - What beautiful, loveable babies! 🙂 Louie has magnificent eyes- LOVE the ‘charcoal liner’ effect he has going on. 🙂 He almost looks like, if he had a person voice, he’d be regally British. Again, wonderful job Debbie!

Lisa - All three dogs are gorgeous! I’d have to keep Beau myself.
I suspect Beau is also American Bulldog – he looks much like my AmBull, Leroy!

Nancy Higgins - OMG, these photos are beautiful. The photographer did a great job in catching these shots! You all make a great pack!

Christopher - Good stuff!

tyson

Tyson’s a sweet young pit mix, not yet 2 years old.  We met out at Arbor Hills Nature Preserve – a spot I’d been wanting to have a session, but hadn’t yet (note to self:  tall grass = chiggers… and chigger bites if you’re an idiot and don’t take precautions).  After several minutes of taste-testing the various grasses available, Tyson was ready for his photo shoot.  A natural model, that boy.  His mom’s been working hard with him, and their work is definitely paying off.

I always think “sock puppet” when the bullies tip their heads back and smile their jumbo smiles (see left below).

The boy’s got some moves.

That green frog appears in a lot of photos — I had brought it with me but Tyson took a VERY strong liking to it.  It’s by far the cheapest dog toy I’ve ever purchased – I only bought it because it has a good, loud, easy squeak.  Tyson didn’t care – he carried it around the entire session (luckily, he killed the squeaker almost instantly).

How great is the heart patch right on his chest?!?!

Candace - What a handsome guy! And so charming! Love your images, especially the close up of 1/2 his face, beautiful!

Nicki - Awww. I love them! Tyson is beautiful! I really want to get some done of my little guy now!

Ruth - Yay, I’ve been waiting for these! They didn’t disappoint, love them all 🙂

Briana - Oh Debbie! I am in tears! You exceeded my expectations, and honestly, your blog post is the best part! Just to see that someone completely unrelated to him can love him for who he is and not for the stigma of his breed… oh, its just lovely! Thank you, thank you, thank you!

sarah - omg the jumping ones are IN. CREDIBLE.

Shauna (Fido & Wino) - I love pittie & pittie x’s! Such a gorgeous pup!

Valerie - He is so handsome! He really looks like a pro 🙂

Tyson’s mom - Thank you for keeping this page up after all these years. I miss him so very much, and it was lovely to look back

good day for a wuf wedding

Last week, Wuf Pet Resort and Spa, Bella Flora and Paws in the City hosted the wedding event of the year…

Well, the doggie wedding event of the year!  Pups showed up in their finest threads to be joined in Holy Muttrimony at the most romantic and elegant of all doggie wedding venues (and a favorite spot of mine!) — Lee Park on Turtle Creek.  There was a minister to do the marrying, a DJ, wedding cake, catered dinner (mmm…. Dickey’s BBQ!), and some gorgeous flower designs.  One lucky(?) bernese groom snagged himself three golden brides.

It was a really cute event!  (You may recognize that a couple of the Paws puppies appear below – turns out two of them are — well, were this time last week — still available for adoption.)

Proceeds benefitted Paws in the City and the Lee Park Conservancy.
